The würde workhorse

Sein, haben and the modal verbs have their own Konjunktiv II forms — wäre, hätte, könnte. For almost every other verb, spoken German builds the would form with würde + the infinitive at the end:

Ich würde gern nach Hamburg fahren. — I'd like to go to Hamburg.

Pronoun würde Example
ich würde Ich würde das nicht machen.
du würdest Würdest du mitkommen?
er / sie / es würde Sie würde gern bleiben.
wir würden Wir würden gern helfen.
ihr würdet Würdet ihr warten?
sie / Sie würden Würden Sie bitte warten?

Würde is the Konjunktiv II of werden: wurde + umlaut. Most other verbs have one-word forms too — ich käme (I'd come), ich ginge (I'd go) — and a few of them are common, but many sound formal or bookish in speech. For now, you only need to recognise them.
