Neues Konzept
Stem plus ending
Sein and haben are irregular. The good news: most German verbs follow one regular pattern.
The recipe: take the infinitive (wohnen), drop -en to get the stem (wohn-), then add the ending for the person — -e, -st, -t, -en, -t, -en.
| Pronoun | Ending | wohnen (to live) | kommen (to come) | gehen (to go) | lernen (to learn) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ich | -e | wohne | komme | gehe | lerne |
| du | -st | wohnst | kommst | gehst | lernst |
| er / sie / es | -t | wohnt | kommt | geht | lernt |
| wir | -en | wohnen | kommen | gehen | lernen |
| ihr | -t | wohnt | kommt | geht | lernt |
| sie / Sie | -en | wohnen | kommen | gehen | lernen |
- Wir, sie and Sie always look like the infinitive.
- Er and ihr share the -t ending.
- Wohnen is where you live: Ich wohne in Berlin. Origin is kommen aus: Ich komme aus Boston. Kaufen (to buy) and machen (to do, make) work the same way.
